A Rockstar and gaming insider recently addressed the delay of Grand Theft Auto 6 to 2026, describing the decision as “absolutely necessary” for the game’s overall quality. Originally expected to launch in late 2025, the highly anticipated title had fans eagerly awaiting an official release date and the second trailer, which, fortunately, impressed many with its visuals and helped ease concerns over the delay. GTA 6, the eighth main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, takes place more than a decade after GTA 5 and follows the criminal duo Jason and Lucia through the fictional state of Leonida.. To illustrate the project’s scale, a former Rockstar artist recently shared insights into the game’s lengthy development following Red Dead Redemption 2.
GameRoll shared on Twitter that the insider called the delay crucial. Rockstar Insider weren’t surprised by the postponement. The insider said the game’s quality would have suffered if it had launched in 2025. Rockstar had already started cutting exciting features to meet the original deadline, making the delay a welcome decision.

The delay announced in early May 2025. It pushed the release date to May 26, 2026. Most fans supported the delay, though some continued to speculate that the game might face another setback, possibly extending the wait until late 2026
