The creator of Street Fighter is working on a new boxing game.

Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority and owner of The Ring magazine, has announced that a new boxing video game is in the works, led by Street Fighter creator Takashi Nishiyama. Nishiyama, who is also the president of game developer Dimps—known for its work on Sonic, Dragon Ball, and Street Fighter titles—will head the project.

With EA’s Fight Night series inactive for years, boxing fans have been eager for a quality alternative. Although Steel City Interactive released Undisputed last year to fill that void, the game was met with criticism due to numerous bugs, gameplay issues, and a limited roster. Despite ongoing updates and improvements, Undisputed‘s disappointing launch has left many fans unsatisfied and still searching for a better boxing experience.

New Boxing Game Being Developed

Turki Alalshikh, who has risen to prominence in the sports world since his 2024 pledge to “fix broken boxing,” has announced the development of a new boxing video game in collaboration with legendary game creator Takashi Nishiyama and his studio, Dimps. In a recent Twitter post, Alalshikh revealed that the game will be presented by The Ring and will feature a lineup of original characters. Nishiyama, famed for creating the iconic Street Fighter series during his time at Capcom in the late 1980s, later founded Dimps in 2000 and has contributed to numerous titles across the Sonic, Dragon Ball, and Street Fighter franchises.

Although the contract has only just been signed, development on the new boxing game has not yet started. Turki Alalshikh has confirmed that work will “begin soon,” with additional information to be revealed in the future. While the announcement is exciting for fans craving more high-profile boxing titles, the game’s release is likely still several years away.

This news arrives on the heels of reports about a potential revival of EA’s long-dormant Fight Night series. According to Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw, EA has been exploring a return to the franchise, which hasn’t seen a new entry since 2011. However, development is said to have faced multiple delays and restarts, as the company weighs concerns over the game’s commercial viability.

Although Fight Night hasn’t seen a new installment since 2011, EA has remained active in the fighting game space through its ongoing partnership with the UFC. Over the past decade, EA has released five titles in its EA Sports UFC series, beginning with the first game launched more than ten years ago. Rumors now suggest that EA Sports UFC 6 is currently in development, indicating the company’s continued investment in mixed martial arts titles even as boxing fans await a new Fight Night.
