Warframe Is Giving Its Intro for New Players a Major Makeover

Warframe is rolling out a major revamp of its new player experience, aiming to make the game much more beginner-friendly. This update will be implemented in phases, beginning with the next game update.

The changes come as Warframe celebrates its 12th anniversary on March 25. Originally launched on PC, the free-to-play action RPG has since expanded to PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, and most recently arrived on iOS in February 2024.

Though consistent ports have helped Warframe grow its player base over time, developer Digital Extremes is now shifting gears with a new strategy to keep the game fresh: reworking the new player experience. In a recent Warframe Devstream aired during PAX East, the Canadian studio unveiled a range of accessibility-focused changes aimed at welcoming newcomers more effectively. This overhaul will be introduced gradually, starting with the upcoming update, Yareli Prime, set to launch on Wednesday, May 21.

Warframe Is Streamlining Certain Game Mechanics

Warframe is rolling out a major quality-of-life update designed to make the game more approachable for newcomers.

A major highlight of the upcoming Yareli Prime update (dropping May 21) is a complete overhaul of how Warframes are categorized. Instead of leaving players to guess their suit’s strengths, Warframes will now be sorted by role—Damage, Support, Stealth, Crowd Control, and Survival—making it easier for beginners to understand playstyles. Weapons will also be grouped more intuitively within the primary, secondary, and melee classes—think shotguns, SMGs, or light blades—making loadout building more logical.

Combat is also getting a shake-up. The developers are adjusting the early game’s difficulty curve and tweaking enemy encounters to make things smoother. For example, Bailiffs are being introduced as mini-bosses in Grineer missions, while enemies like Ballistas and Eviscerators will receive new abilities for added depth and challenge.

Next up, Junction missions—those solo encounters that gate Star Chart progression—are also being improved in the Isleweaver update (coming June 2025). Tasks and rewards will now be clearly listed upfront, and players will earn rewards for each individual task, not just for beating the final Specter boss.

Meanwhile, Warframe’s original big bad, Captain Vor, is getting a full boss fight rework. His abilities are being redesigned to better introduce core combat mechanics in a more digestible way for newcomers.

All of these changes are part of Digital Extremes’ broader mission to simplify core systems, improve onboarding, and make Warframe more inviting to fresh players—without dumbing things down for the veterans.
