It’s been officially confirmed that Borderlands 4 won’t include all of the weapon manufacturers featured in previous entries of the series. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the next installment in Gearbox’s popular co-op FPS franchise since its announcement, and they recently got a closer look at what’s in store.
Borderlands 4 was featured in its own PlayStation State of Play presentation, which offered an in-depth preview of the game. The showcase unveiled exciting gameplay, introduced the new Vault Hunters, and provided a range of other game details. One key reveal was the list of the eight main weapon manufacturers in Borderlands 4: Order, Ripper, Daedalus, Tediore, Maliwan, Jakobs, Vladof, and Torgue. Each brand brings unique mechanics—Order focuses on powerful bursts, Ripper allows full-auto charging, Daedalus uses varied ammo types, Tediore reloads by throwing guns like grenades, Maliwan emphasizes elemental effects, Jakobs offers ricocheting bullets, Vladof features rapid fire and large mags, and Torgue delivers explosive and sticky rounds.
However, several fan-favorite manufacturers from past titles—such as Atlas, COV, Dahl, and Hyperion—are noticeably absent from the lineup.
Here is the list of confirmed weapon manufacturers in Borderlands 4:

- Order – Focused on high-powered burst fire.
- Ripper – Weapons can charge up to become fully automatic.
- Daedalus – Features guns with multiple ammo types.
- Tediore – Guns are reloaded by throwing them like grenades.
- Maliwan – Specializes in elemental damage.
- Jakobs – Bullets can ricochet off surfaces.
- Vladof – Known for high fire rates and large magazines.
- Torgue – Uses explosive rounds and sticky projectiles.
Borderlands 4 fans have responded with mixed feelings about the absence of several familiar weapon manufacturers. Some longtime players have voiced disappointment over the exclusion of brands like Dahl, a staple in previous games. However, others appear less concerned, particularly given the introduction of the new Licensed Parts system. This mechanic allows players to combine features from various manufacturers into a single weapon. For example, a Hyperion-issued shield was spotted in recent gameplay footage, despite Hyperion not being listed among the main manufacturers—hinting that legacy brands may still have some form of representation in the game.

On a positive note, fans won’t have to wait as long as expected to dive into the action. Borderlands 4 has moved up its release date from September 23 to September 12. Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford clarified that the date shift is unrelated to the rumored GTA 6 launch. The new release date applies to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, though it’s still unclear whether the Switch 2 version will launch simultaneously.
