Almost 10 years after the original, 2024’s Until Dawn remake brings the game to PC for the first time and improves visuals. Considering the Until Dawn movie adaptation, reviewing the original plot and making minor changes lays up the franchise’s future. One major alteration favors a crucial character’s destiny, which fans will undoubtedly cheer.
The New Ending of Until Dawn Saves Josh
The revised ending lets players rescue Josh, which was previously impossible. Josh died either by Hannah’s Wendigo or by becoming one after being trapped in the mines and eating the stranger’s body in the first game. Since there was no way to save him, the remake allowed players to repent him for his acts, saving him from the mines.
As in the original, Sam and Mike rescue their buddies from the cabin and blow it up with the Wendigos. If saved, Josh will miss the credits’ police questioning sequence. Players must construct the ideal environment for the hidden ending.
New ending requirements for Until Dawn

The hidden ending and Josh’s survival demand more. Players must find and read Hannah’s journal in Chapter 10 as Sam following Josh’s interaction with Dr. Hill. The diary is on the left where players may crawl out of the water when she and Mike trek through the mines and river. To get this hidden ending, players must maintain all characters alive. Josh’s hidden ending comes from reading the notebook and rescuing everyone.
The Canon Ending?
The original Until Dawn ends with all characters surviving save Josh, who becomes a Wendigo. As in the remake, reading Hannah’s diary offers Josh a chance to survive, but he eats the stranger’s body and becomes a Wendigo. Josh surviving is now part of the official ending as the remake changed the original’s conclusion.
Keeping all characters alive in Until Dawn is difficult, and additional addition may have highlighted that. A new epilogue sequence with Sam takes place years after the game. This new scene, which saves Sam, may hint to an Until Dawn sequel. Sam can only die once in the game, when he blows up the cabin, therefore this new epilogue sequence requires not alerting the Wendigos.
After playing the original Until Dawn, many gamers wanted Josh to repent and apologize. With the opportunity to save all characters except Hannah and Beth, who drive the tale, the game’s story seems more complete.
