Fortnite Festival Introduces Local Co-Op, But There’s a Catch

Fortnite Festival announced local co-op support for the rhythm game derivative of the Epic Games battle royale, but with a catch. Recently, Epic Games’ famous shooter has expanded into additional genres with spinoffs and game modes. Epic Games launched LEGO Fortnite, a Minecraft-like sandbox survival game, and Fortnite teamed up with Psyonix for Rocket Racing, a fast-paced racing game. Fortnite’s most popular game mode will get a huge overhaul.

Fortnite Festival’s rhythm game has seen many important changes since its 2023 introduction with Fortnite’s other spinoffs. The rhythm game’s seasons have featured varied themes and musicians in addition to popular new songs. Fortnite’s “Remix” season includes noteworthy rappers including Snoop Dogg, who contributed “Drop It Like It’s Hot” to the game mode. A Rock Band and Guitar Hero staple is returning to Fortnite Festival.

Friday night’s Fortnite Festival social media posts promised local co-op for the Epic Games rhythm game. Fortnite Festival will support local co-op on Xbox and PlayStation early next week, according to Epic Games. Epic Games didn’t specify Switch, PC, or mobile versions in the post, so local co-op is unclear. On January 14, Fortnite Festival will support PlayStation and Xbox local co-op.

Fortnite Festival Adds PS4, Xbox Local Co-Op

Fortnite Festival’s local co-op will delight fans, but it comes with a huge caveat for gamers who want to jam together. Fortnite Festival doesn’t have a drum or microphone controller, so fans must utilize the console’s controller. Early this year, third-party developer PDP released the “Riffmaster” guitar peripheral for Fortnite Festival. Epic Games has not announced accessories for any Fortnite Festival instruments.

One of Fortnite Festival’s upcoming significant additions, local co-op, has been teased. Fortnite’s relationship with Hatsune Miku is set to bring additional jam tracks to Festival. Epic Games even implied the crossover by posting a leek on Fortnite Festival’s official social media in reference to Hatsune Miku’s “Ievan Polkka.” Fortnite’s local co-op support should revive Rock Band and Guitar Hero’s strongest features.
