Baldur’s Gate 3 was been awarded the title of “Best Game” for the second time, surpassing other smash hits such as Helldivers 2, whose creators believed that Larian Studios’ victory would be justly earned.
The Develop conference that is being held in Brighton this year has a number of video game icons from the years 2023 and 2024, one of which is Baldur’s Gate 3, which was developed by Larian Studios and won several awards. As of right now, the group that is responsible for the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game has three new awards to brag about from the event. These titles include one for “Best Narrative,” “Best Studio,” and probably most impressively, “Best Game” overall. Alan Wake 2, Balatro, Dave the Diver, Helldivers 2, and Spider-Man 2 were among the other films that took part in the competition for the prestigious prize, thus winning was not an easy task.
Johan Pilestedt, the Chief Creative Officer of Arrowhead Game Studios and the creative director of Helldivers 2, has said that there are no negative sentiments among the creators of the finalists. However, it seems that there are no hard feelings among the developers. Pilestedt makes a joke about the Develop awards this year by referring to it as “a stiff competition” in an online post that he had made before any winners were revealed. He does this by directly tagging Larian’s official account. “I’m excited and nervous!”
The developer has said in a subsequent comment that he is “happy to lose against Larian Studios,” stating that “BG3 was about as great a BG conclusion could’ve been.” As he proceeds, Pilestedt seems to be referring to Baldur’s Gate 3 as a classic piece of entertainment that is genuinely “for the ages.” While Baldur’s Gate 3 did end up winning the prize for “Best Game,” it was defeated by the multiplayer shooter in another category for the title of “Best Game Design.” However, there was still a chance that Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 might win the honor.
