Minecraft has officially ended support for a long-standing feature in its latest Bedrock Edition update. The update introduces new Flat World presets, giving players a smooth, blank canvas to build on without dealing with uneven terrain. It also includes a series of bug fixes aimed at enhancing gameplay, such as improvements to audio and blocks.
With nearly 170 million monthly active players as of 2025, it remains the best-selling game of all time. Before the latest Bedrock Edition update, Minecraft Java Edition received an April snapshot update, which included adjustments to crafting recipes for dried ghasts and leads, along with changes to potion mechanics.
The Bedrock Edition 1.21.80 patch notes confirm the removal of virtual and mixed reality gameplay support, following the end of PlayStation VR support last year. Previously, players could experience Minecraft in VR through the Vivecraft mod, which worked on platforms like SteamVR and Oculus Rift. While this news may come as a disappointment, it follows an announcement from Mojang in October 2024 that virtual reality support would cease in Spring 2025, with the cutoff originally planned for March, though players were given a few additional weeks.
Minecraft Phases Out Virtual and Mixed Reality Features

The end of Minecraft’s virtual reality support is disappointing for fans who were hoping for a more immersive experience. Minecraft had joined the ranks of top open-world games with VR support, like No Man’s Sky, The Forest, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. However, some casual players were unaware that the game was even available in VR, although they acknowledged it might have been an interesting experience.
Despite this setback, a recent update brought a major change to an existing feature.
